M16 VN review by Towelie

After careful decision making I decided to buy the M16VN as my next gun. The deal was just too good to pass up. An M16VN with the long barrel that I love and a 190 rd hi-cap that comes as standard with the gun made it a great deal.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS/LOOKS
When the gun came in the mail I was excited. I ripped open the brown box and digged through the little styrofoam pieces and pulled out the gun's actual box. On the right side it says "Airborne" and there is the symbol of the US airborne under it. The center is a sky blue color with "vietnam version" written in big letters on it. When I opened the box I was shocked by the color of the gun. In all the pictures I saw of it on the internet, it looked grey, but in real life, the stock, foregrip, barrel and handle were all jet black. The gun is very long, but it remains very comfortable to hold. When I picked up the gun I noticed it was very front heavy mostly because the outer barrel and sight are metal. The gun looks very realistic and seems sure to be able to give a few VN veterans a flashback or two.

PERFORMANCE
When I was done drooling over the looks of the gun I slapped in my 8.4v 1700mah battery and took it for a test drive. When I fired the gun on semiauto I noticed two things about this gun, the noise and the accuracy. The noise is a loud and high pitched sound, and it is especially loud when it is out of ammo. The range and accuracy is amazing. I put up some target paper about 100 feet away and I was hitting the 3 inner most rings almost every time. The sight is fairly accurate once you have adjusted it for windage. On full auto I noticed that the ROF wasn't very high, but that didn't concern me much because I didn't buy the gun for ROF, and ROF can be easily increased with a new battery, motor, etc. I am not saying the ROF is slow, because it is not, I was just comparing it to the ROF on my P90 which seemed a tad bit better. Even on full auto the accuracy and range on this gun is superb! I haven't seen anything like it. None of the infamous "barrel wobble" has been seen on my gun this far. Frankly, I dont see how it can have barrel wobble. The barrel is as solid as a rock.

COMBAT EFFECTIVENESS
I have already used my M16 in both outdoor and indoor skirmishes. I find the gun to be very effective in both. In outdoor scenarios, the long barrel can enable you to hunt down your outranged Mp5 and M4A1 carrying opponents from a distance and the 190 rd hi-cap gives you just enough BBs to wreak some havoc in the woods. In indoor scenarios, some may say the gun is too long to be effective in CQB but they obviously haven't tried it. The accuracy of the gun coupled with the EG1000 motor I put in myself for an extra ROF boost, makes this gun able to instantly send a stream of BBs flying at any opponent who gets brave enough to stick his head out.

OVERALL
This is my favorite gun in any scenario. Whether it is a hostage rescue inside a small building or a long range shootout in the woods, this gun is unbelievably effective. One of my friends after I shot him said "It looked like a swarm of fast flying white locusts ready to engulf me." Well, if you have this gun, you can unleash your own plague of locusts whenever you spot an enemy, near or far.
